I've been having BIG problems with IMAP & courier on Cpanel. I have the path correct & it works great. Recently, I've been causing courier to put enourmous sustained cpu load on the linux server and this causes my hosting account to get suspended. I have no idea why this happens. Thunderbird does it too but not on windows at uni. Just on mac at home. It went from one of to almost every time I check email now. I have temporarily switched to pop :( Any ideas?

Windows 2000 is way better on older hardware.

If you have a Pentium-III with 256MB of RAM in it, Xp will be so slow after you install some apps. Don't even think of Vista :(

So, your best bet would be to find Win 2000 in ebay or somewhere else and install it.

I live over 1 hour away from walmart, but had to go for lab work on April 11th, only 5 minutes away, so bought a HP lightscribe recorder, just in case Sam's club didn't have any, which is often the case with many items, hit and miss. I did find a memorex lightscribe in Sam's for $45, so planned to return the $70 one to walmart when I went for my follow-up appointment, which was today. I figured just show the lady as I entered, let her put the little tag, proceed to walk 5 steps to the service desk and return the charge to my visa. I was told I had to go first to electronics, so I took off that way. When I proudly presented my receipt, I was told that I was too late, there was only 15 days to return it, and Apr 11 would be a month tomorrow, which I realized. Maybe it showed on my face that I was about ready to go off, so they called someone above the manager, and as I waited (over 10 min) for him or her, They didn't come but returned the call in electronics, and had him prying on and inspecting all the seals, and by then I am telling him in no uncertain terms that I had not opened it and he was the one that pried the plastic loose, not me and I only returned it because I got one at sam's for half the price (getting loud by this time) He finally signed the receipt and I headed back up front, only to have the item scrutinized again (after my time yet another line) by the service counter clerk, especially the part of the seal he had forcefully tampered with, but said nothing further. The funny part is that when I bought it a month ago, there was only one on the shelf, and the seal was cut, so I told them that I would take one, but not with the seal gone, which entailed a ten minute wait for the manager to go to the warehouse for a good one. I am curious to know if they actually do get customers gullible enough to buy that crap. I do not believe it is coincidence only that one was avaliable. So all is well now, but that place will never get thier hooks in me again.

Well the links for firmware provided suggest this is ONLY for 8410WD Gold card ... which is the classic model. I think the latest GOLD is 8470WD ... and Silver 8471WD ... they both support 64/128bit WEP, WPA, WPA2 ... any idea what's diff between the gold and silver ? I can't find any diff in the specs...

Yet another "HURRAAH!" for Low_Level_Format.exe! It fixed my 128 mb smarmedia card that I had been using in my Olympus C-3030 and ruined it with my Windows XP.

The first time I tried to run it though it gave me an error after a while, saying something like "Can not do surface scan" or something like that. I ran it the second time and it went through without trouble!

Roy,
If it says something like this:

mac:~$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
domain localnet
nameserver 192.168.1.1

Then that probably means your router is acting as a DNS relay. Try logging into the router config pages, and the DNS settings for your ISP should be there someplace...

This didn't work for me and I know my server uses Courier on Linux. So I did a little more searching and found this result...

///
Select the account in the mailbox sidebar, and click on the + at the bottom left of the window to create a sub-folder of said [IMAP] account. Name it what you want; it should not matter. Now select the sub-folder (expanding the arrow if necessary), and go in the menubar to Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For > Sent.
///

So if you already have a 'Sent' folder that you wish to use, select that then follow the instructions. This also works perfectly for Trash, Drafts and Junk. Hurrah!!

Hm, I´m having a little problem,

When I type INBOX into the field "IMAP path prefix", it
1- doesnt solve my problem (mails being composed as well as saved manually as drafts, and sent mails, do not save / appear.
2- my IMAP mail folders on the server, that usually appear in a nice, orderly list on the left below my local (on the mac) folders, within a "NAME OF IMAP ACC" remote folder which has as a logo a black earth with a white @ on top of it.

I´m wondering what I´m doing wrong...

I've broken my two Smartmedia cards for use them on my Olympus D-380 camera while reading it with my PQI TravelFlash USB 2.0 reader. PQI support didn't help me.

It seems very hard to buy a reader that is compatible with LOWLEVELFORMAT.EXE or FLASHRANGER.EXE nowadays, until I discover "VIVANCO HIGH SPEED USB 2.0 38in1 reader". A friend of mine bought it on Pc City in Spain. It works fine with the two utilities. I just fixed my cards.

You rock for this one. Finding it now because I've put up with it this long, but that's great! No more error dialog box interruptions when composing...

Oh yea, and an actually saved draft!

Thanks!

I am glad you wrote this article. Unfortunately I gave out my fedex account number and have a suspicion that they will abuse it. Did your company have to pay for all the unauthorised shipment? How do you enable and configure Shipping Administration for your account within Ship Manager on the website?

thanks

I recently attempted to retuen some icicle Christmas lights that were not working on our house. I had the original receipt and credit card the purchase was made too. It had been only a week. I was told they could not return or exchange these lights as they had been used. I said yes on my house and they did not consistently work. We had already tried new fuses, breakers and changing the light bulbs before we went back on the roof to take them down. WALMART POLICY says RETURNS IN NINETY DAYS WITH RECEIPT. I am calling my credit card company as we speak to question the charge there has to be some way to get my money back. I too spent alot of money every month in this store and will not continue to do so.

Hi all. I too had the same problem (on 2 olympus xd acrds) and after trying all the possible solutions (aperase, smprep, smformat, etc.) I finally found one working application that helped me solve this problem. Download Flashdoctor from here http://driver.zol.com.cn/detail/10/95395.shtml

Be sure to recover/copy first your xd card's contents to your PC. Insert your xd card into a card reader connected to your PC then run Flashdoctor. Format your xd card using this tool then insert it back in your camera, voila! I formatted my xd cards again through the camera just to be sure, now everything's working fine. Hope this helps as it helped me. Good day!

Zach #26,

i did the same thing: designated the server's sent mail as the Sent Mail box by "Use this mailbox for..." command. But now Mail.app has become horribly slow...it takes 20-30 seconds to populate the email lists when switching between folders.

Does anyone have a way to speed this up? Or undo what i did?

Thanks,
R

What a great post - thanks. I just got a (dv) hosting account from Media Temple and was wondering why Apple Mail was throwing lots of errors. I think for this to work though I had to restart the courier server with:
/etc/init.d/courier-imap restart

Thanks

Thanks for this... I've been trying to sort this out. Same setup (Plesk/Courier).

I had to log into my webmail (Horde) and create the Draft and Trash folders to get that to work. (Options / Mail / Server and Folder Information)

Another nearly-toasted Apple customer here. I was using my G4 12.1" Powerbook in bed last night when I noticed that the connector between the computer-end plug and the cord had completely *melted through*. Took a closer look, and it started sparking and giving off a lovely, acrid electrical smoke smell. I'm going to be calling Apple momentarily; I'm not sure whether my computer's still covered under Apple Care, but considering that I could have easily fallen asleep and torched my dorm, I think the least they could do is replace the thing. Even better is that it's decided to go south a week before my Master's dissertation is due. Nice.

I've been a loyal Apple user forever, but this and the RPC issues with the MacBook's DVD drives is enough that I'm seriously considering breaking down and buying a PC for my next laptop. I'm going to tell whoever I get at the support center as much, too.

Awesome stuff ... I thought I had this right, but I had checked "Automatically synchronize changed mailboxes," and my machine froze. I still have it checked on my personal machine, but not my work machine, which is the one that was giving me problems. Everything is all good now ... thanks!

I can confirm that doing the silver -> gold upgrade on a PC and then using the card on a Mac works fine.

I'm using a G3 PowerBook with the ioXperts 802.11b driver - http://www.ioxperts.com/products/80211b_X.html and a Lucent WaveLAN card.

I had some problems finding a Gold firmware updater (you need to run this on the PC after using Alchemy to make the changes permanent from memory) but hunted down v8.72 here : http://processlist.com/info/wsu10872.html

I've got no idea if there's anything later / better than v8.72

Cheers, Antony.

NE OHIO WALMART/EXCHANGE DUE TO DEFECTIVE BABY MONITOR:
Just today I called earlier this AM to talk to a gal in the baby dept about my baby monitor after 2 weeks conking out on us /defective wise ( Safety 1st) She said "BRING IT UP NO QUES'S ASKED & GET A NEW ONE" SO! while visiting a NE OHIO Walmart store...@ customer service one of cashiers said I will even exchange this baby monitor but go get another one and bring it up here ...so I did ...when I returned I gave her glady my ID and she punched in my Dr Lic # , SHE SPIT OUT 2 other returns w/out a receipt ?! I came to find out that you are only allowed THREE returns w/out a receipt within 12 months time period. I was shocked! & then she said " I NEED AN OVERIDE" really loudly and everyone turned & looked at me.I felt like a criminal because following that was the cashier supervisor looking back at me with a *WTF-LOOK on her face* because she had to actually do some work ( sorry it did seem as if I was bothering her to come out of her way back over to put in a key & press a couple buttons). SO! I asked what is wrong she said loudly again " Ma'am this is your last return without a receipt for the year, due to having 2 others in the past 6 mo's"...I said thats not possible I have been out of town and SAVE everything & my receipts. THIS item is a DEFECT and from my baby registry just pull that registry up in your system?! She wouldn't and said " I am not lying ma'am " I said " didnt say you were! I am trying to say thats not my items before there you show!"...she said SOMEONES USING YOUR ID THEN MA'AM?!

Not! I highly doubt it - but I said whatever can I have that paper receipt with that msg on it? so I kept it ---I dont understand why this had to go towards a return without a receipt? because...it was a gift and on my registry there in the store and ! it was a defective item I called ahead on! ugggh these stores. IT DOES MAKE IT BAD FOR US HONEST PEOPLE - WHOMEVER TYPED THAT ABOVE!

NE OHIO WALMART/EXCHANGE DUE TO DEFECTIVE BABY MONITOR:
Just today I called earlier this AM to talk to a gal in the baby dept about my baby monitor after 2 weeks conking out on us /defective wise ( Safety 1st) She said “BRING IT UP NO QUES’S ASKED & GET A NEW ONE” SO! while visiting a NE OHIO Walmart store…@ customer service one of cashiers said I will even exchange this baby monitor but go get another one and bring it up here …so I did …when I returned I gave her glady my ID and she punched in my Dr Lic # , SHE SPIT OUT 2 other returns w/out a receipt ?! I came to find out that you are only allowed THREE returns w/out a receipt within 12 months time period. I was shocked! & then she said ” I NEED AN OVERIDE” really loudly and everyone turned & looked at me.I felt like a criminal because following that was the cashier supervisor looking back at me with a *WTF-LOOK on her face* because she had to actually do some work ( sorry it did seem as if I was bothering her to come out of her way back over to put in a key & press a couple buttons). SO! I asked what is wrong she said loudly again ” Ma’am this is your last return without a receipt for the year, due to having 2 others in the past 6 mo’s”…I said thats not possible I have been out of town and SAVE everything & my receipts.
I too can confirm this problem exists between Mail.app on OS 10.4.10 and a server running CentOS 3.8 with cPanel 11 - but only after we switched the server from running UW-IMAP mbox to courier-IMAP maildir (as is now recommended).

Applying a combination of the solutions recommended here seems to have worked.

Yep - This definitely does the trick on courier IMAP for cPanel 11 as well (probably cPanel 10 too, though I upgraded to cPanel 11 and from mbox to maildir at the same time on the server I run, so I never got to test with maildir and cPanel 10).

Thanks for the great info! I've verified that this also works for a Courier/cPanel installation also running on Linux.

Another useful trick so solve a problem I was having (Mail.app making its own "Sent Messages" instead of using the "Sent" folder that already existed) is to select a mailbox on the server (Sent in this case), go to Mail.app's Mailbox menu, choose "Use this mailbox for..." and select the desired mailbox (Sent again). Now Mail.app properly saves my sent messages in the "Sent" mailbox instead of its own "Sent Messages" box.

Might it be possible to use Alchemy 1.01 to hack the Silver card into a Gold card on a PC and then use the Gold card on a Mac?

My Mac already recognises the Silver card and the OS and router both prefer 128-bit encryption.

Thanks a ton for the info! I found it pretty strange that the settings weren't working for me at work, since relatively few people are using IMAP here. Things make a lot more sense after looking at the configuration file that's set so low.

We have helped hundreds, if not thousands, of people with their Internetishop/Hugebee computers. We still have people calling to this day. When we can identify the problem or the ODM manufacturer we send them in the right direction. Here is our posted version of what happened back in 2004:

I've been taking Xenadrine EFX for 2 months and I've seen significant body fat loss. My waist, hips, bust, thighs and arms have shrunk between 2-4 inches. I run 30 minutes a day and eat a lot healthier. I've lost a total of 23lbs so far and I just need 20-30 more lbs to go!

My 12" PowerBook(1.33)G4's adapter has always run a bit hot, but I hadn't noticed that it had gotten worse until one day after I was shocked while touching only my plugged in computer's trackpad and right hand-rest above the battery. My computer was one with a recalled battery, so I have the problem of that not fitting right - even though it is within their limits. I only moved my computer because of my fear of electrocution or frying of circuits, and that's how I discovered that my power brick was burn-my-hands hot.
The problem seems to be with my computer though, somehow. I have plugged my computer into another adapter which doesn't get hot under normal use with another G4 (older)PowerBook, and it also heats up when used with my computer. The idea that the computers are somehow destroying the adapters would explain the repeated failures experienced by only certain people, but how would we figure out what the problem is then?

My 12″ PowerBook(1.33)G4’s adapter has always run a bit hot, but I hadn’t noticed that it had gotten worse until one day after I was shocked while touching only my plugged in computer’s trackpad and right hand-rest above the battery. My computer was one with a recalled battery, so I have the problem of that not fitting right - even though it is within their limits. I only moved my computer because of my fear of electrocution or frying of circuits, and that’s how I discovered that my power brick was burn-my-hands hot.
The problem seems to be with my computer though, somehow. I have plugged my computer into another adapter which doesn’t get hot under normal use with another G4 (older)PowerBook, and it also heats up when used with my computer. The idea that the computers are somehow destroying the adapters would explain the repeated failures experienced by only certain people, but how would we figure out what the problem is then?

Tom,

Please note that this particular documented INBOX fix only applies when connecting to Courier IMAP servers running on Linux under the Plesk control panel environment because that's the only place I've tested it. There are literally hundreds of IMAP mail servers out there and each one may have its own quirks and configuration options.

It sounds like the IMAP server you're connecting to may not be a Courier/Plesk configuration or it uses a different style of user management. Basically, a "normal" IMAP server creates a mail/ folder under a user's account and the IMAP Path Prefix is usually "mail/". This means that the IMAP server looks at the default inbox (/var/spool/mail/username) for incoming mail and the mail/ folder for additional saved folders. It sounds like changing the prefix to INBOX made your mail client look for a folder called INBOX which doesn't exist on your particular IMAP server.

In a Courier/Plesk configuration each user doesn't have a real account; there's a virtual user database where mail gets funneled on a per-domain basis. By changing the prefix to INBOX it tells the Courier IMAP server to look in the virtual INBOX area instead of a real folder on disk.

This isn't working for me - I get the errors regardless ... I have "Advanced" and IMAP Path Prefix: INBOX

I've tried it with "automatically synronize changed mailboxes" checked and unchecked, restarted mail, etc., but always get the error - it's NOT saving draft to server. Under MailBox behaviors, I *DO* have "Store draft messages on server" selected as well.

I started taking Xenadrine 8 hour this morning. I took the recommended dosage and felt nauseous, dizzey, light headed, my face felt numb and my chest ached all day. It's now been 15 hours later and not much has changed. I drank an 8 ounce glass of water this morning with dosage and continued with water all day long. I've had the other Xenadrines and they were fine but somehow this type is as spooky as taking Liqua Thin diet drops that I tried years ago (they were an ephedra product) that made me feel like a hyped up junkie although I lost all the weight and more than I planned at the time, I nearly over dosed on accident and had the same side effects as this product. I don't know if it's really worth the scare.

Hey Malcolm. You can do the formatting yourself instead of sending the cards off. Check out http://olypan.quotaless.com for details on how to use the Low_Level_Format.exe (mentioned earlier on this page) to format both SmartMedia cards and xD cards. It works like a charm, fixes "dead" cards, and you can enable Oly Pano with it too. Best of all, it might be free if your current reader supports it. Enjoy!

Call me another snap victim... Mine is making bizarre grinding noises-- the sound of the unhappiest hard drive in the world.

I used RAID 1 mirrored storage, which for a while kept the data available, but somehow in my attempt to copy off the contents of the server I missed some important files... Now I think somehow the second drive has gone down too-- I keep getting "no disk found" errors when I try to start up.

Man, I hate this thing.

Anybody used this program with an XD card yet? Specifically interested in doing a low level format of a non-Olympus XD card and making it look like Olympus to enable panorama. Right now all my XD cards are already Olympus, so I need to buy a non-Olympus to experiment with. Not sure if they get "fixed" the same way as the SM cards do (putting in the OLYMPUS PAN 2.0 header), but I do see the same 01 03 D9 01 FF code inside this EXE so I'm thinking maybe it could work.

While the first and last letters are significant, the positions of the remaining letters relevant to one another also make a significant difference in the readability of the entire message.

I am assuming you misspelled two words in the sentence. I immediately was able to decipher your message.

Duane,

That gets rid of the error but does not solve the problem. Your solution is like saying "only drive during the day because your headlights don't work". ;)

Your "fix" defeats the whole purpose of IMAP which is to give you access to all your e-mail, including Drafts and Sent Messages, from any computer at any time.

Better fix.

Right click your "Inbox" and choose "get info"

Select the mailbox behaviors

Desellect Drafts: Store draft messages on server.

The error should go away.

I have this problem in a strange form: 2 out of my 3 IMAP e-mail accounts do not allow to save messages (but 'Store sent messages on the server' is OFF, thus sent e-mails go to my Sent folder). 1 account allows to save messages, sent e-mails go to the sent folder, 'Store sent messages on the server' is ON however. All other settings for the 3 accounts are identical, e.g. in the 'Advanced' section. Any ideas on this?

Using INBOX for the IMAP path prefix works for one of my IMAP accounts (using port 143 with no SSL), but not for my .Mac account (using port 993 with SSL on). I've tried turning SSL off for the .Mac account, but it still won't save drafts. Any suggestions?

I contracted with Jatech.ca, whose manager is Ken Conrsd, to obtain this website with the ownership in my name, but I just learned that they incorrectly designated themselves as the owner of the domain name. Now I wish to have someone else host my website; to do this I need to have the ownership of maxsugarart.com registerd in my name. My question to you is, how do I go about making the change? I look forward to your recommendations. Thanks.

It also makes sense to check the <strong>authdaemonrc</strong> options. Too few daemons can be another bottleneck--but of course, when configuring settings, tweak and balance for the particular system's resources and other services.

Steve, you might try PhotoRec available from: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

Even though it's optimized for image recovery it should work on all flash cards for any data.

I've had my SmartMedia 128MB for over a year and it has worked fine all up until tonight. I use it for my Yamaha DGX-505 Keyboard for MIDI files for my music. The keyboard has a built-in SmartMedia Slot and I've saved at least 130 songs on this card. I've ran it in my 4-in-1 card reader on the front of my comp. (SmartMedia Drive) and it loads up my USER Files, which is my music, with no problem. Until now, just today i took it out of my keyboard, while it was off, and put it in the SmartMedia drive on my comp and now all of a sudden nothing is there. It's saying that I need to format the disk. I've used it a number of times with no problems, and im really devistated if i lost all of my music. Can someone please help me? I'm very desperate to find out if there is any technologically possible way I could get my data back??? I'm begging anybody to help me? Also would like to know why this is occuring? I'm afraid to re-format the disk because Im under the impression that all the data will be deleted. PLease helllp, I had the future of music on there. I'd appreciate it if someone who knows what to do could let me know step by step. Thank you.

It has an SAMR audio codec plus a 176 x 144 video -- this seems to indicate it was made with a Sony Ericsson K750i, W800i, K800i or similar. Perhaps there's more information in the actual file, like specific model number and serial number.
