  • Forget Your Subway Diet!

Maybe I’m just utterly bitter because I haven’t been able to enjoy a good Subway sub for quite a while, but I find this photo completely hilarious! Seriously, though, Jared has been an incredible inspiration for quite a few of us. I have to admit that, the first time I saw the Jared ad, I was quite impressed. After reading the article about Jared’s weight loss that was photocopied and posted at the local Subway I did some research and found out some more information. Shortly thereafter, Jared’s ads started showing up on TV displaying his progress.

I had always been a Subway fan and that just gave me more of an excuse to fold it into my meal plan. On my first weight loss stint with Weight Watchers I had Subway almost every day and that helped me drop around 30 pounds. Unfortunately, I slacked off about three years ago and stopped losing weight. Now, with Atkins, I’m down another 65 pounds. The meal planning is so much easier, but I’m dying for a 12″ turkey on hearty italian with lettuce, onions, pickles, black olives, jalapeƱos, american cheese, oil, vinegar and oregano!

  • Operating system buffet…

How many operating systems have you used for at least one hour?

Slashdot posed the above question so I rattled my brain for a few minutes to come up with a quick and dirty list. I’m sure there’s more…
    (more…)

  • Dinner

    • 2 chicken hot dogs with mustard and ketchup (9 carbs)
    • 3 small sausage links (4 carbs)
    • 2 slices american cheese (1 carb)
  • Lunch

    • Grilled roast beef with cheddar, lettuce, onion and pickles on low carb bread with bleu cheese dressing (8 carbs)
    • Side of egg salad (2 carbs)
  • Three day induction plan…

Kelly will be trying Atkins again and has posted her last will and testament. Although I won’t go into any specific details, she has come up with a few interesting motivators to keep herself from cheating. Teehee. So, she has asked me to come up with a quick three day meal plan to get her started on the road to induction.

The first thing to keep in mind is that, for the first few days of induction, water intake is extremely important. This will help reduce the risks of dehydration as well as keep energy levels up as the body gets used to not having many carbohydrates to fuel itself. The next thing to keep in mind is that induction is the most important time to make sure as few sugars and carbohydrates as possible get into the system. Use the Atkins Carb Counter as a cheat sheet to figure out general carbohydrate totals.

  • Is that a Hulk in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

When I was six or seven years old I played a game of Whack-a-Frog at the Old Orchard Beach fairway. The game consists of placing a rubber frog onto a lever and then whacking the lever with a rubber mallet. Get enough frogs into the rotating floating lilly pads in the middle of a small pool and win a prize!

Although I never won anything quite as weird as an anatomically correct bootleg Hulk doll, I did manage to take home a rather large stuffed frog that appeared to have been assembled in a third world country using street urchins for slave labor. To top things off, halfway home in the car, I started to get a headache and didn’t know why. We got home, the frog went into a box of stuffed animals, and that was that.

Years later the box was found, nostalgia set in and I went through all of my old stuffed animals. I found the frog and pulled it out. Memories flooded my brain and then I smelled kerosene. I held it close to my nose and sniffed…kerosene. Check the box…nothing else smelled. Just the frog. I punched a small hole in the back of the fog and found it stuffed with, you guessed it, dirty rags.

So, beware of fair prizes. They’re difficult to win because the games are fixed and, if you do manage to take something home, toss a match at it and see if it goes up like kindling!
